DIY Earrings

A Kate Spade Inspired Bridesmaid’s Gift

Part of what makes a big day so special are the bridesmaids, so it only seems fair to give them a little something to say thank you. But all those wedding expenses can add up. Why not DIY them a little pressie? They say the best things in life are handmade, after all. My favourite wedding is my University friend’s, it was really small and intimate, and she personally made all the wedding favours (lavender potpourri sachets…). Come to think of it, I don’t think she has a sewing machine! Definitely a wedding to remember.

The inspiration for this pair of earrings is from Kate Spade, and the original can be found here. I chose it because hearts seem very wedding-y. LOL Plus, I’d never done a Kate Spade DIY before, and there’s always a first time.

What you need

DIY Earring Supplies

  • Packaging Foam (waste not, want not I always say)
  • Ear Stud Backs
  • Sharpie Pen (gold coloured)
  • Glue
  • Scissors

 Step 1

DIY Earring Cut-out Shape

Cut a heart from the foam. If you’re not steady with your hands, use a pen to draw the outline of a heart in the foam before cutting. (The gold colour will hide the pen marks later.)

Colour the heart all over using the Sharpie and leave to dry for 10 minutes. You may want to give it a second coat to make the colour nice and uniform.
Repeat for the other side.

Step 3

DIY Earring Backing

Apply a dab of glue to the back of the heart and press the stud firmly down. Leave for 24 hours and your earrings are ready to be worn! You’ll find this is a very versatile DIY. Basically, you could change the shape you cut out and have a totally different pair of earrings. Or change the colour by using a different Sharpie or even nail polish!

A cheap, but sweet gift for your bridesmaids. Maybe you can even wear them yourself. If you’d love to use Sharpies for more DIYs–they are my FAVOURITE DIY hack–check out more Sharpie inspiration here:
