We have an AWESOME project for you today, a Guest Room Charging Station from Regular Contributor, Michelle James. I know you are going to love this.
Guest Room Charging Station
I have really had a fun time creating a guest room in our house, since our youngest moved out. Now, I am putting the finishing touches on it including this Guest Room Charging Station.
I saw this bread box at the thrift store for $3, and I could not resist. But…I knew that I would absolutely not make it into a charging station. Everyone had already done it. So, when I got it out the other day to create something with it, I thought and thought. I need a place in our pantry for medications, I need some more organizing storage; but in the end, what I really wanted was a charging station for my guests. So, here I am.
This is what it looked like before.
I removed the knob and painted it white. I just used some spray paint, because it is what I had on hand. The wood finish was somewhat smooth, but it did not seem to matter. It covered nicely. I waited about an hour between coats and put three coats on it.
I knew I wanted some wording on the front and something to tie in the orange in the room. So I painted an orange stripe across the front of the door.
I masked it off with some washi tape then used orange acrylic paint and a sponge brush. This took three coats as well.
I used my Silhouette machine and black vinyl to create my letters for the front. The “Juice Bar” is Glamorous Brush” font and the “Charging Station” is Arial.
I love the way it turned out.
I knew I did not want to put that ugly knob back on; so, I used a drawer pull. Jeff had gotten an entire bag of these at our local thrift store for $4. They were such a bargain. This is what it looked like before.
I spray painted it a glossy black. You can see it in the final photos below.
Then, it was time to work on the inside of the box I purchased. Jeff bore a hole in the back of the box. This was the only size he had but it worked. It could have been a little smaller. Then, he mounted the surge protector power strip next to the hole for the cord.
I wanted the inside of the box and the inside of the front to be padded a little for the electronic devices. They are fragile you know! So, I covered some museum/poster board with some orange fabric. I cut the fabric about an inch or so bigger than the board all the way around, and cut the corners so they would lay nice when wrapped around the board.
I used my Fabric-Tac to glue the fabric onto the board. Then, I used my hot glue gun to adhere them to the wood box.
I think it turned out really cool and it looks great in the room.
As you look around you may remember the Guest Room Essentials Basket, and the Warm and Cozy Blankets as well that were on Life with Lorelai, but you can also find the Guest Room Bedside Tables, and the Guest Room Canvas Art on my blog as well. As I said, this has been a fun room!
Have a good week everyone! See you next time.

Such a neat idea. Currently, I do not have a guest room but that is a really neat idea for guests!
This is perfect for a guest room! With this charger, you won’t have guests searching the room to find a place to plug in their phone. How cute and convenient. It truly shows guests that you care.
That turned out so cool! I love the color scheme in that room, too!
Very clever idea. I like it a lot! I’ve been adding some personal touches to my guest room. A charging station is a fabulous idea!
Love this! For the convenience of the guests AND to save my sanity by keeping them from spreading their stuff all over the place! 😀
Ha! That is SO true, Jean. 🙂
Michelle always has such great ideas! I have 4 teenagers (and their parents) coming this summer. This is a necessity, and I can just put the wifi password on a nice printable hanging inside.
I know, right? Michelle’s guest room is awesome, and super inspiring. Hope your huge birthday February has been great, Audrey! 🙂
Love this idea! We have many guest during the summer months and this is a wonderful idea. Visiting from the #HomeMattersParty

That is adorable!! What a great idea! I always worry that there will be something missing with my guests come, and maybe this is it! 🙂 #HomeMattersParty
Awesome! Love the colors you chose for your Juice Bar! I think the cat also wants to check it out too! 🙂
