Vintage St. Patrick’s Day

Top o’ the Mornin’ to you! It’s that time of year again for everyone to get their Irish on… whether you are Irish or not! St. Patrick’s Day is a fun holiday that allows anyone wearing the green to be Irish-at-heart at least for one day each year.

A Vintage St. Patrick’s Day

May the Luck of the Irish Be with You…

The holiday has its beginnings as a religious feast for the patron saint of Ireland, but today it is internationally celebrated as a festival of Irish culture. Check your local area for parades, festivals, and other activities. March 17th, has some special traditions and symbols that include Leprechauns, shamrocks, Irish blessings, dancing, corned beef and cabbage, drinking green beer, and more.

I have always love the magic of St. Patrick’s Day, so let’s have a wee bit o’ fun with these vintage images and postcards. I’m sure they will put a smile on your face and a lil luck in your day.

Put on some Irish music and dance a little jig! One of our favorite local bands is The American Wake. We love to go see them live, but when we can’t you can bet we will be listening to their albums at home. Oh, My Guiness! Tons of fun…

Will you be frolicking with Irish flair?

I wish you a very happy St. Patrick’s Day! And remember, Spring is just around the corner.

May your troubles be less, your blessings be more, and nothing but happiness come through your door!

Leap Year Day! It Only Comes Once Every 4 Years

I just couldn’t let this day that only comes around once every four years, pass by without saying something. So, happy Leap Year day! It is really a fun kind of day–one I have always enjoyed.

Before we get into the actual post, I wanted to share something very fun and EXCITING with you. The blog newsletter, Coffee With Lorelai, is hosting an EXCLUSIVE GIVEAWAY! Leap Year Day

It Only Comes Once Every 4 Years!

I have always loved this day. There is just something special and a little mysterious about a day that is not there year-after-year. One fun fact of this day is the Irish tradition that allows a woman to propose to a man. The proposal can only happen on Leap Year Day, February 29th, and that tradition led to a favorite movie of mine and Rory.

Have you ever watched Leap Year with Amy Adams and Matthew Goode? If you haven’t seen this movie, put it on your must-see list. You will love it.

Leap Year is witty and charming, hilarious and romantic, and the scenery is stunning. Let your heart laugh and love. Here’s the classic trailer to this wonderful movie…

Rory and I will definitely watch this movie today! How about you?

Here are some fun vintage images for Leap Year Day:

I had to include this image, since Luke builds and restores classic cars and hot rods. LOL

How do you like to celebrate Leap Year Day? Hope it’s happy!

Easter Mantle Decor 2015

Easter Mantle 2015

My life during the past two weeks has been turned upside down, literally. Rory and I are having to move out of our home. A home in which, I grew up, and have lived raising my children for the past almost 23 years.

So, yesterday, when I was moving boxes of holiday decorations, I came across some of my Easter things. It was just what I needed. The happy Springy decorations put a smile on my face, and reminded me of the many blessings that we do have. Luke was gracious enough to let me festoon his mantle…

Those are real roses from the yard. I love how they grew with a curve… perfect for my mantle display. I know I’ll have to change these out, but I love the way they look right now.

I just love vintage Victoriana!

These little egg-shaped boxes with their vintage images are fun to decorate with.

Some cute little Easter train pieces…

Beaded and Glittered Easter Eggs…

This lovely Easter Wreath was a clearance sale find at Armstrong Nursery last year just before Easter. Rory and I couldn’t resist the $12 price tag! It is what I have always been on the look-out for–beautiful pastel colors, glittery shine, and simple. I think it’s gorgeous.

Every time I see this mantle it lifts my spirits, and a little stress flies from my shoulders. I hope you have enjoyed my Easter Mantle 2015 too.

How do you decorate for Easter?

Do you have any favorite Easter decorations?

Happy Flag Day!!!

Good Morning, America! It’s Flag Day. Go outside and fly your flag! Be proud, and remember what this country truly stands for beneath the modern self-puffery of the politicians. Thank you, Betsy Ross, for a beautiful, powerful, and emotion evoking symbol for our country.

“Our flag is our national ensign, pure and simple, behold it!
Listen to it!  Every star has a tongue, every stripe is articulate.”
— Robert C. Winthrop (1809-1894), Senator from Massachusetts

I found a couple of other pictures to spur your patriotism, one of which is a vintage 1917 poster for Flag Day. Enjoy.

God Bless America!
