Instructions:

  1. Decide how many Mini Piñatas you want to make.
  2. Pull Streamer – Cut a 24-inch piece of Ribbon for each piñata.
  3. Handle – Cut a 6-inch piece of Ribbon for each piñata.
  4. Trim – Cut a 6-inch piece of Ribbon for each piñata.
  5. Take two sheets of each color Tissue Paper, open them up and stack them together neatly. (I had one color of tissue that was larger, so I used the excess for my squares — next step.)
  6. Using the excess mentioned above, or another sheet of tissue paper, cut out a 2-inch square for each piñata.
  7. Stack the squares and lightly fold them in half corner-to-corner. Cut a small slit in the middle of the fold. Then, fold the square again to the other corners and cut another small slit, making an “X.”
  8. Take a 24-inch ribbon and slide one tip through the X, tape the ribbon on both sides of the tissue. Be sure you have taped the ribbon well, so the X will rip open when the ribbon is pulled to release the candy from the piñata.
  9. Tape a square and ribbon set to one end of the Tissue Paper Tube. This will hold the candy in place. Make sure the ribbon is on the outside of the tube. It will hang down to be the pull streamer.
  10. Now, cut your stacked sheets of tissue lengthwise into 1-1/2 to 2-inch strips. (I got six strips out of my sheets).
  11. Stack strips. Cut narrow slits about 3/4 of the way through the strips to make fringe.
  12. You will use 3 or 4 fringe strips per tissue paper tube. Carefully separate the fringe strips (two piñatas at a time).
  13. Using the glue pen, lay a thin bead of glue on one side of the solid band on the fringe strip.
  14. Adhere the fringe to the tube starting at the bottom (with the tissue square and ribbon), and working your way around the tube with a slight upward spiral.
  15. Continue adding fringe this way until you get to the top, but DO NOT glue down the end of the last fringe strip. Leave enough to go around the tube a full turn, at least.
  16. Tape a 6-inch Ribbon piece to the outside top of the tube for a handle. Then, finish gluing the rest of the fringe strip to cover up the taped handle ends.
  17. Finish off the Mini Piñata with another 6-inch piece of Ribbon glued around the top edge of the tube as trim.
  18. Let dry.
  19. Fill with candies.
  20. To make a Garland – thread mini piñatas over ribbon or string. Tape in place if needed.

Time for the Fiesta!

Now that you have your Beer Rice recipe and a great decor idea, it’s time to head out and stock up on Corona and Modelo for your big fiesta! Corona Extra and Corona Light have a smooth crisp flavor with superior ingredients that is perfect for someone like you and me. They make moments more enjoyable. Modelo Especial is a Pilsner-style Lager, rich and full-flavored, and the Modelo Negro offers slow-roasted caramel malts for a remarkably smooth taste and rich flavor.

If you would like more ideas or information you can check out the Corona website and the Modelo website, or follow them on facebook — Corona Extra, Corona Light, Modelo.

Saber Vivir, and don’t forget the lime!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Dulce de Leche – Sweet Milk Cocktail

There’s nothing like an ice cold glass of milk on a warm day. Have you ever considered spicing up your glass of milk, and giving it a little kick? With Cinco de Mayo just around the corner, I thought I’d share one of my favorite warm weather cocktails, Dulce de Leche – Sweet Milk Cocktail. This Latin inspired libation is super easy and super delicious.

Imagine yourself relaxing on the porch or under a tree, listening to the birds sing, and feeling a gentle breeze brush across your face. Or perhaps your hosting a Mexican Fiesta full of bold and spicy flavors. Dulce de leche is a traditional Mexican flavor, and this sweet milk cocktail is perfect for cutting the heat in those spicy dishes.

Dulce de Leche – Sweet Milk Cocktail

A Latin Inspired Libation

Cocktails do not get any simpler. For this one, all you need is milk, vodka, butterscotch or caramel liqueur, and ice cubes. Cinnamon sticks are optional, and a pretty glass is always nice.

Ingredients:

  • Milk (I like to use 1% low-fat milk, but use whichever is your favorite)
  • 1 Ounce – Vodka
  • 1 Ounce – Butterscotch Liqueur or Caramel Liqueur
  • Ice Cubes
  • Cinnamon Stick (optional)

How To:

  • Add Ice Cubes to your glass of choice
  • Pour cold Milk over ice cubes
  • Add Vodka
  • Add Butterscotch Liqueur or Caramel Liqueur
  • Stir with Cinnamon Stick and leave in the drink for garnish

Easy-peasy, am I right?! It is like Mexican Flan in a glass, and you are going to love it.

7-Layer Dip Recipe … Yum!

7-Layer Dip Recipe

An Appetizer with a Mexican Flair

This 7-Layer Dip  is always the hit of our family parties. Nobody can get enough, and it goes quickly. It is simple to prepare and requires no cooking. You can use already prepared salsa and guacamole, or make your own.  The heat in this dip is determined by the heat in your salsa, so it’s easily adjustable. Grab a big bag of tortilla chips and dig in!

What you Need:

Refried Beans, Salsa, Cream Cheese, Sour Cream, a tiny bit of Mayonnaise, Guacamole, Cheese, Tomatoes, Green Onions, Olives, Garlic Powder, and Lime .

How to Put the 7-Layer Dip Together:

Mix the beans and salsa and spread in the bottom of a 13 x 9 pan. Mix the cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, and garlic powder until very smooth, then spread over the beans and salsa. Layer guacamole over the top of the cream cheese mixture. Use the remaining ingredients to top the dip.

I promise; you will love this 7-Layer Dip.

Use the olives to make the dip special for different occasions. As you can see in the above photo, I made a stable, manger, and star for Christmas. Write the year in olives or make a clock to countdown to the New Year. Perhaps a football grid for Super Bowl Sunday. A sombrero or maracas for Cinco de Mayo.  The possibilities are endless. An added bonus to this type of decoration, is that if you or any of your guests are like me and don’t like olives, they are easily avoided in the dipping!

Below is a printable recipe… enjoy!

  • 1/2 Cup - Salsa
  • 1 - 8 oz. Cream Cheese (softened)
  • 1/4 Cup - Sour Cream
  • 3 Tbs. - Mayonnaise
  • 1/4 tsp. - Garlic Powder
  • 2 Cups - Guacamole
  • 1 - Lime
  • 2-3 - Tomatoes (diced)
  • 1 Cup - Grated Cheese (I use a Mexican Blend)
  • 1 small can - Sliced Olives (chop or leave whole according to your needs)
  • 3-5 Green Onions (chopped)
Directions:
  1. Combine Refried Beans and Salsa
  2. Spread in the bottom of a 13 x 9 pan
  3. In a small bowl, mix Cream Cheese, Sour Cream, Mayonnaise, and Garlic Powder until smooth
  4. Spread over bean and salsa mixture
  5. Mix a little Lime juice into the guacamole
  6. Spread Guacamole over cream cheese mixture, then use remaining lime to squeeze over the top of the guacamole
  7. Alternate remaining ingredients in diagonal lines across the top. (I don't put the olives in the diagonal lines, but instead chop them and make a border around the pan. I also make a design in the center using the olives).
Notes
Serve with Tortilla Chips

The photo shows my Christmas Dip with the olives arranged in a stable, manger, and star. You could also do a football grid for Super Bowl. Your imagination is the limit.

Mexican Wedding Cakes or Snowball Cookies

Mexican Wedding Cakes

or Snowball Cookies

A Recipe for
The Ultimate Virtual Cookie & Goodies Party & Giveaway
#Ultimatecookieparty

I am Co-hosting the virtual Cookie & Goodies Exchange party with several of my blogger buddies, I hope you will pop by for a visit and exchange a few recipes with us.

This cookie recipe has been a forever family favorite in my house. Delicious barely describes these melt-in-your-mouth wonders, and the recipe is super easy too! We have always called them Mexican Wedding Cakes, but some people call them Snowball Cookies. Because these cookies do look like little snowballs, they make a perfect holiday cookie.

The recipe has six ingredients: Butter, Powdered Sugar, Vanilla, Flour, Salt, and Nuts.

You bake at 350 degrees F for 10-12 minutes, then roll the cookies in powdered sugar.

Easy right? So, onto the Directions and Recipe.

Mexican Wedding Cakes

Slightly soften the butter. Add powdered sugar and vanilla, and whisk until smooth and creamy. Add flour, salt, and finely chopped nuts (I used walnuts, but have also used pecans). Mix well.

The dough is soft and crumbly. It seems like it’s on the dry side, but it’s not. It will stick together easily. Roll the mixed dough into small balls, and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake until lightly golden  and let cool for 1-2 minutes. Drop into powdered sugar and roll around to cover the cookie. Place cookie on wax paper. Once the entire sheet of cookies has been dusted with powdered sugar, dunk them through the powdered sugar a second time. Return to wax paper to finish cooling.

Don’t these look scrumptious?

  1. Use slighty softened Butter. Add Powdered Sugar and Vanilla
  2. Whisk until smooth and creamy
  3. Add Flour, Salt, and Nuts, mix until well blended
  4. Roll Dough between the palms of your hands to make small balls
  5. Place Dough Balls on UNGREASED cookie sheet
  6. Bake at 350 degrees F for 10-12 minutes, until lightly golden
  7. Let cookies cool on sheet for 1-2 minutes
  8. Drop individual cookies into the additional Powdered Sugar and roll around to coat.
