DIY Sports Button Display
How Do You Display Your Kids Buttons?
Growing up, my son played both soccer and little league baseball. We had lots of fun together being involved in these sports as a family, and have lots of wonderful memories.
Each season (for each sport) brought pictures, and with them we would receive two buttons. Since dad was busy being a coach, umpire, or referee, I was the only one who wore a button to the games. That left me one button (in pristine condition) to do something else with.
I came up with a very simple idea for displaying these much cherished buttons. When the project began, I had three or four buttons to display, and you can see how it has grown. Over the years, I received lots of comments and compliments from family and friends about how much they love my Sports Button Display.
Today, I thought I would share my easy DIY Sports Button Display with you.
A FANtastic Memories Chronology!
What You’ll Need:
- Ribbon (I used about 5 feet of navy colored 1-1/2 inch Grosgrain Ribbon)
- 2 Push Pins
- Your collection of Sports Buttons
Directions:
- Hold one end of the ribbon
- Fold the ribbon to make a circle (this will be the bow part at the top of the Button Ribbon – mine is about 4-1/4 to 5 inches wide)
- Overlap the ribbon end about an inch
- Hold ribbon with overlapped area in the middle
- Grab the front middle part of the ribbon and hold it with the overlapped area.
- Fold the ribbon tail at an angle, so it goes straight down from the bow
- Wrap the tail around the center of the bow
- The ribbon tail should come over the top of the bow and hang down the front
- Use Push Pins to hang on wall
- Cut bottom of ribbon tail into a “V” shape with two points.
- Attach Sports Buttons as you collect them

What an awesome way to display those sports buttons. All of our kids played sports, too and now I’m watching my grands play. I try not to miss a game. I bet every time you look at those buttons you have such fond memories. Great display idea!
Enjoy every game, Alli! Thanks for liking my Sports Button Display. 🙂
This is sooooooo beautiful 🙂
What a wonderful idea
It is definitely a treasured item in my home. 🙂

You have a great week too, Cindy! We look forward to partying with you on Friday! 🙂
That’s a great idea! I didn’t have the buttons, I had medals my daughter got from gymnastics. Ended up getting a shelf with pegs for trophies on top and medals hanging from the pegs. I’ll have to keep this in mind because they want to start softball soon. Thanks for the great tip!
Glad you like my Sports Button Display. You have a great idea for trophies and medals. 🙂
This is such a cool idea! I will be passing this one onto friends and using this idea for my grandkids. #HomeMattersParty
So happy you like this idea for sports buttons. I really enjoy mine.
I spent many hours watching as our children played soccer. We got the pictures, too. But, we never got buttons! Maybe that’s something they do nowadays that they didn’t back in the days of yore. . . (I feel deprived!)
Thanks for sharing this idea on my Grandma Ideas link party. It’s a fabulous one!
Glad you enjoyed my little DIY project for sports buttons. And thanks for inviting me to your party!

That is just delightful and what a great way to keep buttons.
I love my button ribbon, and it really is a talking point.
I have never seen sport buttons. We don’t have them here but they look really cool. What a great idea. Do they do sports buttons for all the sports that kids do?

I know they do buttons for AYSO soccer, Little League Baseball, and Pop Warner football… They are fun to have, and wear to the games. And this display is a FANtastic chronology of my son growing up.
How neat! Right now my kids are not into sports, but that could very well change.
I love my ribbon of sports buttons! Maybe someday, you will too. 🙂
That’s a super cute idea and I bet the kids just light up every time they see it! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
