Luke and I are hosting Thanksgiving Dinner at my house this year for the first time. Is it the first time I am holding the festivities in my home? No, but it is the first time for many of Luke’s family to come to my home. Last year, Luke popped through my family’s Thanksgiving on his way to see his family. Needless to say, I am both excited and a little nervous. I just want everything to be wonderful, delicious, and fun.
After Luke talked with his family over the phone, I decided to send an email with all of the details. I wanted something special for that correspondence, so I put together a little invitation.

Do you send out an invitation?
Any suggestions for making this first Thanksgiving together very special?

I didn’t send invitation but we did call everyone on the phone. We are also having a mini cook off, plus we play games at our celebration.
A mini cook-off and games. I would love more details! 🙂
I love it. So pretty and festive. We’re not really doing a Thanksgiving dinner this year with family. My husband, youngest son and I eat steak with all the trimmings. lol I’d love for you to link-up this post on my Family Friday link-up today 🙂
Linked! I am a huge fan of steak with all the trimmings… Yum! 🙂 I am totally enjoying the Family Friday Link-up. 🙂
You are so creative! That looks so warm and welcoming, I’m sure they are all excited to come!
Warm and welcoming… just what I was going for! Thanks, Rhonda. 🙂
Love this invite! Don’t be nervous it is fun and even if some things go wonky, everyone will have a great time! Listen to my show on November 22, Chef Laura will be telling all her secrets to make a perfect Thanksgiving Meal! You have to blog about how it turns out!
Oooh, post a link for the show, I would love to listen to it! 🙂
It’s so cute! I love it! No, we don’t send out invitations – I think everyone just kind of follows the smell of the food LOL
We’re going to have my famous 2-hour turkey, so the smells will be wafting! 🙂
It turned out adorable. I am needing a tutorial on creating things like this…maybe you should host a class.
Hosting a class is an interesting idea. I will have to talk to you further about that. I’m glad you like the invitation! 🙂
I don’t send invites because my family is so small. I host every year and we only have about a dozen people, so it’s very manageable!
I can only think of less than a handful of years that Thanksgiving was not at this house in the past 42-years, but this will be a first for Luke’s family to be here. 🙂
Love it! Can’t wait to attend, I’ll bring the wine! Oh….that wasn’t meant for me? I am sure it will be filled with many warm memories.
Brandi, you’re bringing the wine! Get on over here, girl!!! 🙂 I hope you have a warm and cherished Thanksgiving as well.
It looks great! Really pretty! We’re having just close family at a little cabin we have by the lake 🙂 First year doing that so it should be fun. My hubby always has wine at holidays, which I had never done before. But it makes it seem so formal 🙂
Thanksgiving at a cabin… oh my that sound wonderful!! We will have wine, and some kind of martini. I always make a pitcher of martinis for the holidays. I just have to figure out what flavor I want to make. Right now I;m leaning towards Pumpkin Pie or Pecan Pie martinis. We’ve had Salted Caramel, Maple, and Apple amongst others over the years. 🙂
I think it will be really special. Especially for my mother in law. Her health is not the best and she can’t travel much at all so this seems like a treat for her. She’s making the turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls and pumpkin pie, which is more than she’s made in awhile! Oh boy, martinis! That sounds like a blast! PEE-CAN pie ones would be glorious 🙂
What a great family memory Thanksgiving will be with your mother-in-law. I think I’m gonna have to start test mixing the martinis next week. The PUH-CAAN pie one will probably be my first test recipe. 😀
I’ll bet the testing is lots of fun too! 😉
Well, I wouldn’t want to serve bad martinis… 😉
Your invitation is so beautiful! I really need to learn how to make things like that.
Thank you. I really was very happy with the way it turned out. Now I’m working on a menu printable with the same frame background. Fun, fun, fun! 🙂
I love your invitation! Light candles and play festive music at a low volume to create cozy ambiance. We always do this!
Great ideas, Natalie! I always have candles, but we usually wait until after dinner for music… and then it’s Christmas. 🙂
I like that! You are a woman of many hats! I think between cooking and preparing for company, I wouldn’t even think about invitations. I would be concerned that I keep my sanity! 🙂
The invitation was playtime… a great sanity keeper. LOL 🙂
How exciting. That invitation was a nice touch. I never cook Thanksgiving. My mom does. I have plenty of other holiday meals at our house though. My advice is to not wear yourself out so much that you can’t have fun too. Sure the food is important, but being together is too.
I definitely want to be part of the fun! I’m hoping to do as much ahead of time as I can, so the actual day will be more relaxed, busy… but relaxed. 🙂
Very nice! I’m sure everyone will love the invitation.
I always think about giving the guests something to take home. Some decorated jars with some kind of mix inside that they could just put together in no time? Or even a cellophane bag with muffins or some little snack inside for later.
Hope you have great success.
Little party favors. What a great idea. tat would be so much fun. 🙂
You never cease to amaze me with your creativity 🙂 We don’t do invites/evites, just a ton of emails deciding who is bringing what, which is fun in itself. I host a desert break at work in our office just before Christmas and send invites (printed and email) to other offices in the building, these would be a festive addition to our sweet treat beak 🙂
Thanks, Kim. I do enjoy creating things. 🙂 I worked in an executive suite for a while (pre-kids), and we had Friday treats and of course special little things fr the holidays. I was working for the property manager of the suites so we were always in charge of those things, and it was so much fun.
If I was having a lot of company then I would use an invitation but this year it will just be us.
Sometimes the small quiet family celebrations create the most amazing memories. Enjoy! 🙂
Since we’re in a state with no family around it’s just going to be us this year. Nice invite though and I’m sure they will enjoy the dinner you have planned.
Thank you, Amanda. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving. 🙂
I wish I live in the USA which has a lot of celebrations and meals. LOL…
You will have to tell us about your celebrations, Adelien. It would interesting to hear about. 🙂
Beautiful! I didn’t do invites last year but I wish I had! Although they wouldn’t have been this pretty
Thank you! I thought it turned out really pretty. 🙂
This is a great idea. I don’t use invitations. I just do Facebook invite to the group or occasion. Then I have my discussions in there. This is a lot cuter!
And it was fun to create too! 🙂
Lorelai, I clicked on those Pinterest links, got completely lost in Pinterest and had to use GPS to get back here 🙂
Hahaha! I have done that before too. 😀
Lovely invite! We never receive invites anymore. It’s more texting of when, where, and time. But I love how you did yours.
And thanks for talking about Thanksgiving. Everywhere I turn (even on the radio), I see or hear Christmas. I like celebrating what we’re thankful for.
I love Thanksgiving, and I’m with you… Christmas doesn’t start until after Thanksgiving Dinner! Then, I’m all over it. Music, decorations, baking, you name I love it! 🙂
Thank you so very much for stopping by and sharing on Family Friday Link Up Party! Hope to see you again next week!
I am thoroughly enjoying your Family Friday Link Party! 🙂
I usually mail out invitations but this is a great idea. This is going to be the first TG that we are not hosting dinner in our home. It feels weird, but it’s going to be just the two of us 🙂
A change in holidays always feels weird. Ours is a little different this year too, even though I always host and still am. Enjoy a lovely Thanksgiving together…
Never thought of sending out invitations! How cool. Will have to try that out this year.
The invitation was well received by all the guests, and I had a matching menu printed up on Thanksgiving Day so it all tied together. 🙂
You are a girl after my own heart! Love love love invitations for everything – even a playdate or coffee – there is just so MUCH ordinary in the day to day that we should take whatever chance we can to make it special. The invite is great 🙂 Thanks for participating in our very first blog hop! Monday is fall recipe day – hope to see you there!
It really is the small details that make things pop. I will definitely be back next Monday for the Fall Recipes! 🙂
That is a great invitation! I love that it wasn’t just a generic email. Thanks for linking up at the Home Matters Linky Party!
~Bonnie
So glad you like the invitation, Bonnie! I absolutely adore the Home Matters Linky Party, thanks for hosting it. 🙂
I have never sent out a formal invitation, but this is so cute! This is our off year and only one or two of our 5 children may come. I always have each of them bring one dish. That takes a lot of the stress off of me. Of course, I do the main items, but it’s nice to have them help out. Then I have a simple but fun activity for the grands. I’m sure your day will be wonderful! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann
I love creating graphics and such, so this was a fun way to add an extra something special to the holiday. 🙂
So very pretty, Lorelai!!! I am featuring this, and all your other 3 link-ups from the last party this week. They were the most clicked posts of the week!!!!
Zan, I’m so glad you love my Invitation to thanksgiving. It was a hit with my guests too. 🙂 Thanks for featuring me at Home Matters.
So pretty! #HomeMattersParty
I wish we were hosting so I could use this. We are driving 8 hours for dinner, ha ha!
Oh, wow…that is quite a drive! Be safe, and stay the night! 🙂
Cute invitation. So was that particular Thanksgiving dinner a success?
Happy to be co-hosting the #HomeMattersParty once again.
Yes, it was a huge success…lots of fun and yummy food had by one and all. 🙂
The invitation you created is lovely! Good job! Thanks for letting me co-host with you at the #HomeMattersParty this month!
I love how your Thanksgiving invitations turned out, they are lovely. I think sending invitations is a thoughtful idea. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! #HomeMattersParty
