Winter Trail Mix Recipe

Party Snack or On-the-Go Treat

I love this time of year with all the parties and fun activities that surround the holidays — Christmas Caroling, Holiday Boat Parades, taking a ride or walk to see the Christmas lights and decorations. Sometimes you just need a quick little snack to take on-the-go.

This Winter Trail Mix recipe is super quick and easy. You can literally whip it together in a minute. The trail mix is not too sweet and not too salty and loaded with the wonderful flavors of the season. It’s perfect for snacking or it makes a fabulous party nibble that both kids and adults will love.

Take Winter Trail Mix on all your holiday outings! Great for parties too. Get the Recipe. #TrailMix #recipe #snack Click To Tweet

So, let’s get to the recipe!

Winter Trail Mix Recipe

  • 1 Cup – Roasted Salted Whole Cashews
  • 1 Cup – Cinnamon Roasted Almonds
  • 1 Cup – Candied Pecans

  • 1 Cup – Mini Marshmallows

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, add all the above ingredients.

How easy is that? It does not get any easier, right? Yes, you will thank me. This is so yummy and packed with the delicious flavors of cashews, almonds, pecans, cranberries, cinnamon, and even some chocolate.

Oriental Trading has the cutest Buffalo Plaid line available right now. I like to package my Winter Trail Mix in these adorable Buffalo Plaid Snack Bowls with Lids. They are so festive and fun for those holiday outings. Take thermoses or stop and pick-up a couple boxes of coffee or hot cocoa and fill up your Buffalo Plaid insulated coffee cups with lids. It is a perfect treat combo.

I even keep a snack bowl filled with my Winter Trail Mix on our Wooden Buffalo Plaid Serving Tray in the den for evening snacking while we watch TV.

I know you will enjoy this snack, and I wish you the happiest of holidays.

Strawberry Pistachio Cheesecake Recipe

Bake your own At Home

Oh, goodness! Cheesecake is one of my favorite desserts. And I never pass up an opportunity to go to The Cheesecake Factory — everything on the menu is delicious, and their cheesecake is legendary. I am so excited to share that now you can make some of that yumminess right in your own home.

The Cheesecake Factory has launched their NEW line, The Cheesecake Factory At Home Cheesecake Mixes! These boxed mixes come in three flavors, Classic, Salted Caramel, and Strawberry. They have easy prep and are simple to make, so you can impress your friends and family in a snap. But another great thing about these box mixes is that you can use your imagination and create and customize your own personal cheesecake flavor.

I created my own scrumptious cake using the Strawberry Cheesecake Mix. The box comes with pouches for the crust, the filling, and the topping. All you have to do is add the cream cheese, eggs, butter, and milk. There are even “Chef’s Tips” printed on the box to make this already delicious cheesecake even better. I gave mine a creamier texture by substituting a little heavy cream and sour cream for the milk. The Chef was right, it was creamier!

So, let’s get to baking my Strawberry Pistachio Cheesecake!

The Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 Box – The Cheesecake Factory At Home Cheesecake Mix (strawberry)
  • 16 ounces – Cream Cheese (softened)
  • 3 Eggs
  • 3 Tablespoons – Butter
  • 8 to 16 ounces – Heavy Cream (2 Tablespoons for filling, the rest for garnish)
  • 3 Tablespoons – Sour Cream
  • 3/4 Cup – Pistachio Nuts
  • 1/2 Cup – Freeze Dried Strawberries
  • 1/4 cup – Mini Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

The How-To:

Directions:

  1. Heat oven according to the Cheesecake Mix box.
  2. Chop the Pistachios. You want them to be small but not totally pulverized. They will vary in size.
  3. Chop Freeze Dried Strawberries — fine to small.
  4. Follow directions on the cheesecake mix box to mix the crust. Before adding the crust to the pan, add 1/2 cup pistachios and 1/4 cup strawberries. Mix well.
  5. Turn crust into the baking pan and pat crust to cover the bottom and halfway up the side.
  6. Follow the box directions to make the cheesecake filling. I used the Chef’s Tip for a creamier texture and replaced the 1/4 cup milk with the Heavy Cream and Sour  Cream. Do Not over beat the eggs — this will help to keep the cake from cracking.
  7. Once filling is ready, pour the mixture onto the prepared crust.
  8. Follow the baking instructions on the cheesecake mix box.
  9. After the cheesecake is baked, carefully run a knife between the cake and the pan to loosen the cake. This will help to keep the cake from pulling and cracking during the cooling process. Cool in the pan.
  10. Allow the cheesecake to rest until it becomes room temperature. Then, place in the refrigerator to chill for a couple of hours before garnishing and serving.
  11. TIP: When you transfer the cake to the refrigerator, place your whipping bowl and beater(s) into the freezer to get icy cold. This will help your cream to whip faster.

Decorate Your Cheesecake:

Garnish:

  1. Pull your whipping bowl and beater(s) from the freezer.
  2. Add the remaining Heavy Cream to the icy cold bowl and start whipping.
  3. Once the heavy cream begins to thicken, add the remaining freeze dried strawberries. Continue whipping until the strawberries are fully incorporated and cream is whipped to stiff peaks.
  4. Pipe whipped cream onto you cheesecake as desired.
  5. Sprinkle pistachios, strawberries, and Mini Chocolate Chips.
  6. Follow the direction on the cheesecake mix box for softening the topping, and drizzle around the cheesecake. You may want to save some topping back to decorate the dessert plates for individual servings.

The pistachios and strawberries are a delightful combination, and the red and green speckles in the crust and garnish are both whimsical and beautiful. This would be a perfect dessert for the holidays or anytime– simple decadence!

HOLIDAY HACK:

Bake cheesecakes ahead and freeze them! After the cheesecake is room temperature, carefully remove the cheesecake from its pan. Place the cooled cheesecake on a baking pan uncovered, and freeze until firm. Once firm, remove the cheesecake from the freezer. Remove from the pan, and wrap the ungarnished cake snuggly in plastic wrap, then two layers of foil. Seal the wrapped cheesecake in a freezer bag and return to the freezer. Cheesecakes can be frozen for several months. When ready to use, thaw cheescake in the refrigerator for 8-12 hours or overnight. Once your cheesecake is thawed, garnish as desired, and serve.

Thanksgiving Tablescape Simple Elegance

At the busy holiday season, it’s nice to have some simple elegance. I’m sharing how to put together a gorgeous and easy Thanksgiving tablescape with the help of Oriental Trading Company who provided some of the items for my table decor. AD #ThanksgivingTablescape

Thanksgiving Tablescape Simple Elegance

Helping to make the busy holidays easy and beautiful

There is no escape. You can’t turn back now. The holidays are upon us. So, let Oriental Trading help you make this busy season simple and elegant, fun and easy, or whatever sparks your fancy. There is something for every decor style, craft idea, or DIY project.

This year, my Thanksgiving tablescape style is simple elegance with a rustic touch. Autumn is such a lovely season full of fall colors, delicious flavors, cozy moments, and family memories. Let’s celebrate!

The first thing I did was gather my supplies:

  • Ceramic White Pumpkin
  • 1 – Wood Large Round Centerpiece (wood slice)
  • 1 – Wood Medium Round Centerpiece (wood slice)
  • Silk Fall Leaves
  • Fall Burlap Pumpkins
  • 2 – Battery-Operated Round Flameless Candles
  • Raffia Ribbon
  • Tape

Prep the Candles:

Candles

  1. Lay individual leaves in a line, right side up. Make the line of leaves long enough to go around the candle.
  2. Place a strip of Tape across the line of leaves to hold them in position.
  3. Wrap the leaves around the candle and secure with an additional piece of tape.
  4. Tie Raffia Ribbon around the leaves. I used two pieces of raffia ribbon for each candle.
  5. Carefully remove the tape.

Building the centerpiece:

  1. Stack the two Wood Slices (large and medium) in the center of the table. I turned mine so they didn’t lay exactly the same.
  2. Then tuck some of the Fall Leaves under the edges of the wood slices. Add extra leaves to spill out across the table as desired.
  3. Place the Burlap Pumpkins around the wood slices.
  4. The showcase of my centerpiece is the gorgeous Ceramic White Pumpkin. It has a white glaze and a little gold detailing to make this pumpkin absolutely stunning. Place it on the wood slices.
  5. Set the Candles on opposite sides of the centerpiece.

Tie your place settings in with your centerpiece:

Napkins

  1. Fold napkins however you wish.
  2. Lay a couple of leaves on the napkin.
  3. Tie with raffia ribbon.

Water Goblets or Wine Glasses

  1. Tie raffia ribbon to the glass stem.

So, what do you think of my Thanksgiving tablescape? It’s simple and elegant, right? And it certainly was quick and easy to create.

I set-up a super cute buffet table for some extra snacks and my delectable dessert.

These Vampire Cupcakes are easy-peasy to make and are quite a crowd pleaser — definitely a perfect Halloween-themed dessert. CLICK HERE for the RECIPE!

All of my Bunco supplies had a Halloween twist. From the goodie bags for my prizes to the table tags denoting which table was which, to the pencils. Even my prizes were renamed: Master Vampire = Most Buncos; The Headless Horseman = 1st Place; Mummy in the Middle = 2nd Place; The Cackler = Most Smileys; and The Body in the Basement = Most Losses.

Aren’t these spooky Candelabra Place Cards adorable? They were perfect for marking my tables and placed beside my cupcakes.

Ready to Play Bunco?

Bunco is a very EASY game, anyone can play it. There is no skill or strategy involved. If you can roll dice, you can play. This game is a great social mixer since you change partners and tables all night long, so you get the opportunity to chat and giggle with everyone.

Very few supplies are needed to play Bunco: dice; paper; pencil; and a bell (or something to make noise with). You will also want score sheets. And, if you are starting a Bunco Group of your own, you’ll want the Monthly Paid Schedule and the Rules, Prizes & Game Play. I have FREE PRINTABLES for these!

Bunco – Monthly Paid Schedule

Bunco – Rules, Prizes & Game Play

Hooray, it’s October! I love Halloween, and I am always trying to think of fun things to make it special for those around me. So, today, I am sharing this easy DIY craft that is perfect for spreading some spooky cheer! Let’s do Some Friendly Neighborhood BOO’ing.

Who to BOO

We always love to BOO the neighborhood kids, but we also plan to BOO Luke’s 86-year-old dad and his friends down at the donut shop. They have been meeting there each morning for decades.

These Halloween candy baskets are great for a classroom party, any group get-together, you name it. BOO your local fire department, police station, or hospital. BOO It Forward and get everyone in the Halloween spirit. The FREE Printables make them a snap and come in pre-colored or color-your-own options.

It’s easy to purchase the MARS® Variety bag for your BOO Kit. Just hover over the shoppable image above to click through to Walmart.com and buy it!
Now, what good would a candy basket be without some candy to fill it? My choice is the 400 piece MARS® Spider-Man Chocolate/Sugar Variety Bag! This bag is loaded with SNICKERS®, Skittles®, TWIX®, MILKY WAY®, Starburst®, and 3 MUSKETEERS® — can we all say, YUM?! You can find some cute stickers, tissue paper, bags, and cards from American Greetings too.

Let’s get crafting!

Halloween Candy Baskets

Supplies:

  • Free Printables – Download Here: Pre-Colored Shapes or Color-Your-Own Shapes
  • Cardstock
  • Glue Stick
  • Colored Pencils, Markers, Crayons, etc.
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Bone Folder (or another flat edge)
  • Paper Cutter (helpful, but optional)

Directions:

  1. Print your choice of pre-colored or color-your-own Halloween shapes.
  2. Cut out the shapes leaving a flat edge at the bottom, and an edging around the shape. These shapes will be the sides of your candy basket.

  1. Measure and mark cardstock. You will need two pieces cut for each basket — one for the basket (3-1/2 inches x 7 inches) and one for the handle (7 inches x 1 inch).
  2. Cut the cardstock for all the baskets you will be making.

  1. On the cut out Basket card stock, measure in 1/2 inch from the long edges on each side. Draw a line with a pencil, then score each pencil line with a bone folder or other flat-edge.
  2. Fold the scored long edges inward.

  1. Cut notches into the 1/2 inch folded edges to make it easier to fit the basket onto the shapes.
  2. Lay the notched basket cardstock flat and place glue on notches, both edges.
  3. Fold the notches to a right angle so the glued sides are on the outside of the basket.
  4. Attached glued notches to a pair of matching Halloween-themed shapes in a U-type shape, so there is an opening at the top. You will be able to move and adjust the notches to fit each shape as needed. Make sure that your shapes are turned the same way with the flat edge at the bottom.
  5. Let glue set.
  6. Dab glue on both ends of the handle, and attach to the top inside of the basket cardstock. Let glue set.

  1. Print a BOO Card for your basket.

BOO It Forward

Voila! You now have a spooktacular Halloween Candy Basket! Now, throw a party or BOO a friend and share your Halloween spirit.

Don’t forget you can get the Spider-Man Homecoming DVD & Blu-Ray on October 17th at Walmart.

Tailgating or Homegating This Fall With Coleman

Tailgating or Homegating

This Fall With Coleman

Are you ready for football? We can’t wait to hit the Friday night lights when our alma mater plays. It’s such a fun time gathering around and tailgating with old friends and cheering on our favorite high school team.

We thought we’d give our new Coleman products a trial run with a preseason kick-off and a little homegating to get us in the mood. Walmart has an entire Coleman collection. You can find things in the store, but there is even more available online. You can have your Coleman products delivered to your home or pick them up in-store and SAVE!

SHOP THE COLEMAN COLLECTION!

Coleman 4-in-1 Mosaic Table

We ordered the Coleman 4-in-1 Mosaic Table and the Coleman Party Ball. It was easy to run through our local Walmart and pick these up. I could even text the store when I arrived, so they could get my packages ready for me. How easy is that? I love anything that saves me time.

We love the Coleman 4-in-1 Mosaic Table. It has a thoughtful and well-planned design. It is compact to carry and store, and all of its pieces snap inside the closed table. There is even a handle. The table consists of two tables that you can configure in a multitude of ways — two side tables, one square table, one long table. The table also features adjustable legs for differing heights and adjustable feet for stability, awesome. You could even make a two-level table for serving. Strong, sturdy, stable.

Watch this video on how easy the table is to set-up, tear-down, and configure.

Coleman Party Ball – Charcoal Grill

The Coleman Party Ball is a small charcoal grill that features foldable legs, lid latches, and a handle for transport. The grill has a removable charcoal tray for easy clean out of ashes. The lantern shaped draft holes are pretty cute. We easily fit four hamburgers on the grill, and we had to toast our buns in two batches. The Party Ball is great for on-the-go.

All in all, we had a fun time with our homegate. We had some great food and even laughed it up with some crazy antics. So, whether tailgating at the game with friends or homegating in the backyard with family, Coleman is there to help you enjoy the outdoors!

Get ready for your Fall tailgate with the Coleman Collection and get your discount when you pick-up in the store.

Happy Tailgating!
