Winter Trail Mix Recipe Party Snack Or On-the-Go Treat

This Winter Trail Mix recipe is great not just during the holidays but all year long. Use it as a party snack or take it on-the-go. Nuts, dried fruit. #WinterTrailMix #Recipe

Some of the products in this post were provided by Oriental Trading Company.

Winter Trail Mix Recipe

Party Snack or On-the-Go Treat

I love this time of year with all the parties and fun activities that surround the holidays — Christmas Caroling, Holiday Boat Parades, taking a ride or walk to see the Christmas lights and decorations. Sometimes you just need a quick little snack to take on-the-go.

This Winter Trail Mix recipe is super quick and easy. You can literally whip it together in a minute. The trail mix is not too sweet and not too salty and loaded with the wonderful flavors of the season. It’s perfect for snacking or it makes a fabulous party nibble that both kids and adults will love.

Take Winter Trail Mix on all your holiday outings! Great for parties too. Get the Recipe. #TrailMix #recipe #snack Click To Tweet

So, let’s get to the recipe!

Winter Trail Mix Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup – Roasted Salted Whole Cashews
  • 1 Cup – Cinnamon Roasted Almonds
  • 1 Cup – Candied Pecans
  • 1 Cup – Dried Cranberries
  • 1 Cup – Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
  • 1 Cup – Mini Marshmallows

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, add all the above ingredients.
  2. Mix until well blended.

How easy is that? It does not get any easier, right? Yes, you will thank me. This is so yummy and packed with the delicious flavors of cashews, almonds, pecans, cranberries, cinnamon, and even some chocolate.

Oriental Trading has the cutest Buffalo Plaid line available right now. I like to package my Winter Trail Mix in these adorable Buffalo Plaid Snack Bowls with Lids. They are so festive and fun for those holiday outings. Take thermoses or stop and pick-up a couple boxes of coffee or hot cocoa and fill up your Buffalo Plaid insulated coffee cups with lids. It is a perfect treat combo.

I even keep a snack bowl filled with my Winter Trail Mix on our Wooden Buffalo Plaid Serving Tray in the den for evening snacking while we watch TV.

I know you will enjoy this snack, and I wish you the happiest of holidays.

Thanksgiving Tablescape Simple Elegance

At the busy holiday season, it’s nice to have some simple elegance. I’m sharing how to put together a gorgeous and easy Thanksgiving tablescape with the help of Oriental Trading Company who provided some of the items for my table decor. AD #ThanksgivingTablescape

Thanksgiving Tablescape Simple Elegance

Helping to make the busy holidays easy and beautiful

There is no escape. You can’t turn back now. The holidays are upon us. So, let Oriental Trading help you make this busy season simple and elegant, fun and easy, or whatever sparks your fancy. There is something for every decor style, craft idea, or DIY project.

This year, my Thanksgiving tablescape style is simple elegance with a rustic touch. Autumn is such a lovely season full of fall colors, delicious flavors, cozy moments, and family memories. Let’s celebrate!

The first thing I did was gather my supplies:

  • Ceramic White Pumpkin
  • 1 – Wood Large Round Centerpiece (wood slice)
  • 1 – Wood Medium Round Centerpiece (wood slice)
  • Silk Fall Leaves
  • Fall Burlap Pumpkins
  • 2 – Battery-Operated Round Flameless Candles
  • Raffia Ribbon
  • Tape

Prep the Candles:

Candles

  1. Lay individual leaves in a line, right side up. Make the line of leaves long enough to go around the candle.
  2. Place a strip of Tape across the line of leaves to hold them in position.
  3. Wrap the leaves around the candle and secure with an additional piece of tape.
  4. Tie Raffia Ribbon around the leaves. I used two pieces of raffia ribbon for each candle.
  5. Carefully remove the tape.

Building the centerpiece:

  1. Stack the two Wood Slices (large and medium) in the center of the table. I turned mine so they didn’t lay exactly the same.
  2. Then tuck some of the Fall Leaves under the edges of the wood slices. Add extra leaves to spill out across the table as desired.
  3. Place the Burlap Pumpkins around the wood slices.
  4. The showcase of my centerpiece is the gorgeous Ceramic White Pumpkin. It has a white glaze and a little gold detailing to make this pumpkin absolutely stunning. Place it on the wood slices.
  5. Set the Candles on opposite sides of the centerpiece.

Tie your place settings in with your centerpiece:

Napkins

  1. Fold napkins however you wish.
  2. Lay a couple of leaves on the napkin.
  3. Tie with raffia ribbon.

Water Goblets or Wine Glasses

  1. Tie raffia ribbon to the glass stem.

So, what do you think of my Thanksgiving tablescape? It’s simple and elegant, right? And it certainly was quick and easy to create.

Halloween-Themed Shaped Candy Baskets

DIY Craft To BOO It Forward with FREE Printables!

Hooray, it’s October! I love Halloween, and I am always trying to think of fun things to make it special for those around me. So, today, I am sharing this easy DIY craft that is perfect for spreading some spooky cheer! Let’s do Some Friendly Neighborhood BOO’ing.

Who to BOO

We always love to BOO the neighborhood kids, but we also plan to BOO Luke’s 86-year-old dad and his friends down at the donut shop. They have been meeting there each morning for decades.

These Halloween candy baskets are great for a classroom party, any group get-together, you name it. BOO your local fire department, police station, or hospital. BOO It Forward and get everyone in the Halloween spirit. The FREE Printables make them a snap and come in pre-colored or color-your-own options.

It’s easy to purchase the MARS® Variety bag for your BOO Kit. Just hover over the shoppable image above to click through to Walmart.com and buy it!
Now, what good would a candy basket be without some candy to fill it? My choice is the 400 piece MARS® Spider-Man Chocolate/Sugar Variety Bag! This bag is loaded with SNICKERS®, Skittles®, TWIX®, MILKY WAY®, Starburst®, and 3 MUSKETEERS® — can we all say, YUM?! You can find some cute stickers, tissue paper, bags, and cards from American Greetings too.

Let’s get crafting!

Halloween Candy Baskets

Supplies:

  • Free Printables – Download Here: Pre-Colored Shapes or Color-Your-Own Shapes
  • Cardstock
  • Glue Stick
  • Colored Pencils, Markers, Crayons, etc.
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Bone Folder (or another flat edge)
  • Paper Cutter (helpful, but optional)

Directions:

  1. Print your choice of pre-colored or color-your-own Halloween shapes.
  2. Cut out the shapes leaving a flat edge at the bottom, and an edging around the shape. These shapes will be the sides of your candy basket.

  1. Measure and mark cardstock. You will need two pieces cut for each basket — one for the basket (3-1/2 inches x 7 inches) and one for the handle (7 inches x 1 inch).
  2. Cut the cardstock for all the baskets you will be making.

  1. On the cut out Basket card stock, measure in 1/2 inch from the long edges on each side. Draw a line with a pencil, then score each pencil line with a bone folder or other flat-edge.
  2. Fold the scored long edges inward.

  1. Cut notches into the 1/2 inch folded edges to make it easier to fit the basket onto the shapes.
  2. Lay the notched basket cardstock flat and place glue on notches, both edges.
  3. Fold the notches to a right angle so the glued sides are on the outside of the basket.
  4. Attached glued notches to a pair of matching Halloween-themed shapes in a U-type shape, so there is an opening at the top. You will be able to move and adjust the notches to fit each shape as needed. Make sure that your shapes are turned the same way with the flat edge at the bottom.
  5. Let glue set.
  6. Dab glue on both ends of the handle, and attach to the top inside of the basket cardstock. Let glue set.

  1. Print a BOO Card for your basket.

BOO It Forward

Voila! You now have a spooktacular Halloween Candy Basket! Now, throw a party or BOO a friend and share your Halloween spirit.

Don’t forget you can get the Spider-Man Homecoming DVD & Blu-Ray on October 17th at Walmart.

Want to send some Halloween spirit to loved ones across the country? No problem, Create your own BOO Kit online and have it sent to them. Then, they can BOO It Forward too!

German Pancakes A Traditional Family Recipe

This shop, German Pancakes A Traditional Family Recipe, has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #CapturingTraditions #CollectiveBias

Here is a tasty recipe that is great for busy school days, leisurely weekends, or special holiday brunches — German Pancakes! Make them a tradition in your family.

German Pancakes Recipe

Capturing a Family Tradition

When I was a kid, it was always a great morning when you woke up and smelled German Pancakes cooking. Mmm, I’m getting hungry already.  Why is that? Because we are making German Pancakes today. This recipe is easy, versatile, and delicious! That is why it has been a family tradition for generations.

German Pancakes are a crepe-like pancake, they are large and thin. You brush them with Gold’n Soft spreadable butter and add cinnamon and sugar, or jellies, jams, fresh fruit, or whatever you like. Roll the pancake, sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired and serve. They are perfect for a family with differing tastes because you make them individually. Have all one flavor (like me, cinnamon and sugar – yum!), or mix it up.

These pancakes are quick and easy, so they are a perfect choice for fueling the kids up before school, a leisurely weekend breakfast, or a holiday brunch.

German Pancakes Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1-1/4 Cup – Milk
  • 4 – Eggs
  • 1 Cup – Flour
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Salt
  • Gold’n Soft Spreadable Butter
  • Fillings of Choice: Cinnamon and Sugar; Jams; Jellies, Fruit, etc.
  • Powdered Sugar (Optional)
  • Syrup (optional)

Directions:

  1. Crack open the Eggs into a bowl.
  2. Add Milk to eggs, beat well.
  3. Mix Flour and Salt in a separate bowl.
  4. Stir flour and salt mixture into the milk and eggs gradually, until smooth.
  5. The batter will be thin.
  6. Heat a heavy 8-inch to 10-inch skillet and grease lightly with butter or oil.
  7. Pour only enough batter to make a very thin pancake. Tip the skillet from side to side and around to help spread the pancake batter as needed.
  8. Cook on one side (without flipping) until the pancake begins to blister or bubble. Flip the pancake and cook the other side until a light golden color. Do not over cook. You do not want them to get hard or crispy. NOTE: Pancakes cook very quickly, pay attention.
  9. Remove from skillet and place on a board.
  10. Once you have several pancakes stacked on the board, you can begin filling one at a time.
  11. Brush one side only with Gold’n Soft butter.
  12. Add about 1 to 2 Tablespoon(s) of your desired filling: Cinnamon and Sugar; Jam; Jelly; Fruit; etc. to the buttered side.
  13. Roll pancake from one edge all the way across to the other side.
  14. Place rolled pancake (or two) on a plate and dust with Powdered Sugar.

NOTE: If you have two cooks, one can be cooking the pancakes while the other fills and rolls them. Kids love to help with these pancakes.

You can see above how I butter a pancake and sprinkled it with cinnamon and sugar before rolling it — that’s my favorite! Below is a slideshow of how to roll a German pancake with fresh fruit.
